Parish Health Program

I consider Holy Cross Ministries' Sister a friend and a confidant. I'm not sure what I would do without her.

What We Do:

HCM nurses and volunteers visit homebound seniors, providing health checkups, bereavement counseling, spiritual support, and a sympathetic presence. We provide transportation to local clinics when necessary, and communicate with clients by phone to ensure that their needs are being met. They also conduct basic health screenings for hundreds of low-income families across the Salt Lake Valley and Wendover, and refer people with critical health needs to local low-cost health care providers.

Why We Do It:

As they age, many low-income individuals lose the ability to access community resources. Often, these people are forced to live in isolation, and may have little or no support from their families. Low-income families often have very little information about their health, and do not have a primary care provider. We believe in the inherent dignity of all individuals, no matter their age, and offer basic checkups and attentive care to ensure that the people we serve don't have to feel isolated and can be empowered through greater knowledge about their health.

Jane's Story ThumbnailJane's Story:

Jane lives alone in a mobile home park and has many health problems. Sister Miriam visits her at home, and was able to help her get the care she needed.
